" I do the decks n tha " - Lee Pennington 2003 Hailing from the industrial region of Teesside in the UK Lee Pennington is known for the one of the north of England’s longest running underground house and techno party’s aptly named *riffraff and for being one of Ibiza’s Zoo Projects longest serving resident DJ’s and head honchos. *riffraff was launched initially as a one-off party to celebrate his first ever vinyl release on Source of Gravity Records, the party quickly developed into a monthly event for people who appreciate forward thinking underground electronic music and like to get stuck in. Lee’s DJ sets mirror what he produces in the studio where he has evolved from an old progressive sound into creating his raw and diverse style of percussive house and techno championed by Sasha, Digweed, Rui Da Silva, Eric Morillo, Laurent Garnier, Denney, Pig & Dan, Hernan Cattaneo…. Pretty much every heavy hitter in the global underground scene.

Lee has released records on Perc Trax, Kismet, Bulletdodge, Wiggle, Cubism and a ton of others under his own name and from his Section 75 alias as well as his partnerships with other producers including defected records Lee Walker as Groove Syndicate. Lee’s production skills first came to light on the global scene when he won top spot in the worldwide Space Ibiza 2020Vision remix competition with his mix of 2020 Sound system's “sliding away” beating thousands of other entrants. His track was featured on the Space remix Compilation 2009 and from then on his musical works often hit the top ten on Beatport and traxsource. One production highlight of Lee’s career other than having five tracks in the top five across five genres at once on Beatport was being asked to produce alongside DJ Alfredo and put out the first ever release from the Ibiza legend which found its way to number one on traxsource and remained there for six weeks.

Lee can regularly be found spinning his hypnotic beats at some of the world’s best underground events and has played at Fabric, Sankeys, Watergate (Berlin), Privilege (Ibiza), Studio 338, The Egg, Ministry of Sound, Back to basics, Jaunt, Shindig, the Mint Club whilst holding down his weekly residency at The Zoo Project (Ibiza) and monthly event *riffraff (Middlesbrough). Away from the nightclubs Lee is also lecturing students on musical technology, as well as, mastering and engineering for artists and labels. It has been all of the above achievements and hard work that has led Lee to becoming a firm established resident and booker at the Zoo Project parties in Ibiza playing to crowds of up to 4000 each week as well as touring with them around the world. Artists that have influenced his style include Todd Terry, DJ Pierre, Mood II Swing, Masters At Work (Louis Vega / Kenny ‘DOPE’ Gonzalez), Cajmere , Green Velvet ,Carl Craig / Marshall Jefferson, Kevin Saunderson, Chez Demier, MK (Marc Kinchen), Kerri Chandler and the late, great, Frankie Knuckles. A sound which was made famous by the (US) artists that he holds in such high regard.

It is no secret that the ‘DUB’ Addict has a love affair with the Island that has always had music and especially house at its heart. The House Music Mecca we all know as IBIZA. He loves the island that much he e states that he endeavours to visit the island at least once a year. When he first visited the island he fell in love with Sunset strip and more recently the famous Cafe Mambo. He was lucky enough to get invited to play one of his own tracks out to a packed crowd at the San Antonio House hot spot!!! Just before the well known sunset!!!

He states this was definitely a defining moment in his career !!! A moment of which he states he will never forget.

Dez Ford
Dez Ford
Info

Dez Ford (aka Kinetic Emotion), has been a freelance recording, mixing and mastering engineer for over seventeen years. He has produced music for artists from many different genres, which can only highlight his eclectic musical taste and interests.

Although not a DJ, and regardless of genre, Dez knows a good dance track when he hears one as dancing has been a big part of his life. Like many kids from the 80’s, his interest derived from the early Hip-Hop/Electro scene that was introduced to the UK in that decade, he eventually got more serious about music in his teenage years when he started to go out to clubs.

In time, upon finding out how the music he liked dancing to was being created, his interest in synths, drum machines and personal music creation began. Dez's collection of anolgue keyboards and synths is not rivaled by many, with such makes as Roland, Moog, ARP, Oberhein which are all in his rack.

He also took up an interest in drumming when one of his brothers asked him to look after their drum kit for a while. He then taught himself to play it and since then has performed in several bands, supporting local and signed acts at well-known music venues and festivals up and down the country. He has also featured as a drummer on several album and single releases for independent artists and record labels.
